For the last several days, we’ve been in Austin for the Niche Media Conference. As always, we’ve been impressed with the quality of the presentations and great turnout for the event. One of our favorite quotes from the show was “If you’re not innovating, you’re not growing. And if you’re not growing, you’re dying.”

In terms of the presentations, most have focused on building an integrated or unified audience database. Some of the strategies presented include:

  • Using events to generate leads.
  • Giving away free content to convert readers to paid.
  • Optimizing search and paid advertising.
  • Posting and engaging on social media.
  • Using video.
  • Telemarketing.


In addition to the audience discussions, we also enjoyed Joe Pulizzi’s presentation, “Undiscovered Revenue Opportunities for Your Niche Brand.” We found his use of the Disney business model fascinating.
